From the recording The Waiting Game
Old-Time Country - This is a song that's been in my head and heart for so many years. I started writing it in the early 1990's and was revising it right up to recording time, with help on the arrangement from Rich. The track features Rich Brotherton on acoustic guitar and cittern, Warren Hood on fiddle and David Carroll on upright bass.

PATCHWORK PATTERN
Louise Kirchen
BLENDING AND MENDING EMBROIDERED BY TIME
SLOWLY UNFOLDING LIKE BUDS ON THE VINE
DREAMS WE BELIEVE IN ARE WEAVING DESIGNS
LIKE AN OLD PATCHWORK PATTERN OF TWO HEARTS ENTWINED
SOMEHOW THE PIECES WERE JOINED BY A THREAD
THAT HELD US TOGETHER WHATEVER WE DID
BITS OF LACES, SCRAPS AND PATCHES
NOTHING WASTED IF IT MATCHES
PERFECT PIECES MADE TO ORDER
FALL IN PLACE ALONG THE BORDER
BLENDING AND MENDING EMBROIDERED BY TIME
SLOWLY UNFOLDING LIKE BUDS ON THE VINE
DREAMS WE BELIEVE IN ARE WEAVING DESIGNS
LIKE AN OLD PATCHWORK PATTERN OF TWO HEARTS ENTWINED
SOMEHOW THE PIECES WERE JOINED BY A THREAD
THAT HELD US TOGETHER WHATEVER WE DID
BITS OF LACES, SCRAPS AND PATCHES
NOTHING WASTED IF IT MATCHES
PERFECT PIECES MADE TO ORDER
FALL IN PLACE ALONG THE BORDER
BLENDING AND MENDING EMBROIDERED BY TIME
SLOWLY UNFOLDING LIKE BUDS ON THE VINE
DREAMS WE BELIEVE IN ARE WEAVING DESIGNS
LIKE AN OLD PATCHWORK PATTERN OF TWO HEARTS ENTWINED
